Nervous Patients
At Whickham Dental Practice, we understand that some patients may feel nervous or anxious about visiting the dentist. That's why we're committed to delivering Calm and Gentle Dentistry, with your comfort as our top priority.
We can do a number of things to help you feel more relaxed. First and foremost, to discuss any proposed treatment with you in as much detail as you need to make sure that it’s the right thing for you and your oral health. Often, when it has been explained and structured, it isn’t as scary as people first thought it might be.
If any treatment is required our dentists can apply a numbing gel (topical anaesthetic) to your gums before administering injections. This can significantly reduce any discomfort you may feel. Additionally, warming the cartridge of local anaesthetic can further reduce the feeling. Even needle technology has improved – we use the best available and many patients comment that they didn’t even feel it. Please don’t hesitate to ask about these options during your next appointment.
Sedation Dentistry
For patients who require additional help to feel at ease, we offer intravenous sedation. This technique can be used for routine treatments as well as more complex procedures such as wisdom tooth removal or dental implant placement. The sedation is administered via injection in the arm or back of the hand and helps patients to feel completely relaxed throughout treatment. While you will remain conscious during the procedure, you may not remember much afterwards.
We understand that receiving dental treatment can be time-consuming and stressful, especially for patients who require multiple or complex procedures. Sedation dentistry allows us to complete your treatment more quickly, reducing the number of appointments required and making the process more efficient. This technique also allows our dentists to complete your treatment whilst ensuring that you are comfortable throughout the procedure.
If you’re considering sedation dentistry, our team will take a detailed medical history to ensure that we understand your unique needs and can provide the appropriate care. We want to ensure that your experience with us is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
