My Invisalign Experience
I had not been happy with the look of my teeth for a while. I had one tooth in particular that was out of place, some overlapping teeth and my upper and lower teeth were out of line.Mr Wykes introduced me to Invisalign braces and explained how they could improve these problem areas. I took my time deciding if I should go ahead as it was a considerable investment. I checked out the Internet for information and attended an open day held at the Dentists.
My first appointment involved moulds being taken of my upper and lower teeth, a series of photographs and questions about what I wanted to achieve from wearing the braces. All this information was put together then I returned to watch a video showing me the journey my teeth would take and most importantly the final result. Happy with this I returned for an appointment to have my first set of trays fitted. This visit involved having small attachments fitted to some my teeth and some gaps made between certain teeth. All painless! My first set of trays were fitted and the journey began. I regularly visited the Dentist about every six weeks to check I was on track and be given the next batch of trays which I changed every two weeks.
The trays are made of clear plastic and no one ever seemed to notice them. They were comfortable to wear with only some minor discomfort when changing to a new set. I did have a slight lisp at first but this soon stopped. The trays were easy to clean and remove when eating etc.
It took 18 months for my teeth to move into there new positions but I started to see signs of change early on which was very encouraging. I did have to have an alteration to my original prescription when after about a year some of the trays weren’t fitting snuggly enough. Mr Wykes had explained that sometimes alterations could be necessary. I had moulds taken as before and was issued new trays to put me back on track.
I now wear a retainer at night to ensure my teeth stay in place. I’m delighted with the result and highly recommend Invisalign. I love my smile now ?

Happy Smiling Again
Over the last few years I had noticed my front teeth beginning to become more crowded and overlap and I thought that really it would be ridiculous to be seen wearing a brace at my age (early 60’s). Seeing the adverts for invisalign gave me a chance to investigate correcting my teeth.
I was impressed with the fact that the ‘brace’ was clear – in fact I hadnt even noticed my own dentist was wearing an alignment on the day I enquired about the system.
The first week is really the most difficult to get used to the aligner and I did see my dentist to have adjustments made and to be reassured all was in order. It was comforting to know that both he and his assistant had been through the process so understood my early difficulties getting used to wearing the aligners.
From that week on I had very few problems – most were slight rubbing when new aligners were started but dental ‘putty’ was given to me to act as a cushion for first wearing of new aligners.
The real postives throughout were that I learnt how to really clean & look after my teeh daily and since I started the process I have much healther gums.
After 1 year my teeth were as I wanted them to look and as it is now a year later I can honestly say I have not just straighter but healthier teeth with no more bleeding and sensitive gums. I put this down to the whole process of wearing aligners and ensuring very good mouth hygiene on a daily basis. It is recommened to wear a retainer most nights – again that has its benefits as it doubles up as a teeth whitening tray!
Did anyone notice the aligners over the year – no – thats the real benefit for an over 60yr old!

I found out about Whickham Dental Practice when I was researching braces online and made an appointment immediately. We looked at various options and Invisalign seemed to be the best solution for my teeth. Now, I’ve just finished the treatment after 18 months and have to say how pleased I am with the results! I wish I’d done it years ago. Also, I have to mention how fab the practice has been. The reception staff were really helpful and John and Steph were so approachable and friendly, I actually looked forward to seeing them! I could not recommend the practice highly enough. Just a quick thank you message to John Wykes and Steph following my routine check this morning.
I had the Invisalign straightening procedure carried out on my teeth, followed by the teeth whitening procedure. I am delighted with the outcome and many people have commented on how straight and white my teeth now look.
It has all been done in a professional and personable manner. The Invisalign treatment is very straightforward and I found it completely painless. The difference is striking. At the end of the procedure I was measured for a retainer which needs to be worn on an evening time just to ensure the teeth remain straight. Its very straightforward and I don’t even notice I have the retainer on now. The retainer is such a good fit that the teeth whitening gel works very quickly. Within a few weeks I noticed a significant difference with my teeth several shades whiter. It’s just a case of using the gel as a top up now and again. I haven’t experienced any issues with sensitivity using the gel.
I wish the whole procedure had been available years ago. The technology has allowed this to happen now. Not once did anyone notice I was wearing the Invisalign and I used to do a lot of public speaking. Well done and thank you to all at Whickham Dental Practice.

After damaging my teeth (whilst drinking a bottle of water as a passenger in the car), I was rather worried that a crown and a veneer for two upper front teeth wouldn’t look or feel like the real thing, but I was truly delighted with the end result! I also decided to go ahead and have a bridge fitted to fill a gap where a bottom tooth had to be removed earlier in the year – I really missed that tooth when chewing food. Mr Wykes explained the process to me very clearly and during the first visit, which was quite lengthy but pain free after an injection, he prepared my teeth and took the necessary impressions. He fitted a temporary crown and veneer, then I went back a couple of weeks later and had the real ones fixed in place in no time. The colour match was very good and they feel and look just like my real teeth! After I spent ages just looking at them in the mirror. I was rather wary of actually chewing with them for the first few days, but now they just feel like ordinary teeth – I’m so pleased that I’ve got my smile back again – and just in time for my son’s wedding.

What also struck me is the passion of Dr Wykes, it is cleat he takes great pride in the work he does and enjoys making a difference. The lovely dental nurse was brilliant, and also played a huge part during the treatment.

I’ ve had a significant gap between my two top front teeth for many years, but recently it seemed more noticeable. So I asked Mr Wykes if there were options for reducing the gap to improve the teeth cosmetically.
I thought a brace was the most likely option but Mr Wykes suggested closing the gap by adding composite filling material to both teeth.
So that’s what I had done. Mr Wykes correctly choose a shade to match and I underwent the treatment. It took around 50minutes to complete and the visual end result is excellent, ver impressed.

“I Am Absolutely Delighted With My Teeth”
I consulted Mr Wykes at the Whickham Dental Practice as I was becoming unhappy with my teeth crowding and my less than perfect smile. On his recommendation I opted for the Inman Aligners on my bottom teeth and invisalign on my top ones.
The whole process took around 8 months (which I think could have been less if I had worn them for more than the average 16 hours per day I kept them in). Over this period I had fortnightly appointments for adjustments and monitoring.
Now 8 months on and with my permanent retainers fitted, I am absolutely delighted with my teeth and can smile confidently again. There was some discomfort along the way and certainly the discipline required in terms of oral hygiene and the inconvenience of wearing them should not be ignored; however I would thoroughly recommend the procedure for anyone who is unhappy with their smile.
